Pop dangerous balloons in this arcade game
Bloons TD 4 or Bloons Tower Defense 4 is a free arcade game by Ninja Kiwi. The fourth installment in the popular tower-defense series, this game will have you pop the incoming enemies before they reach past your post. However, instead of orcs, soldiers, or monsters, the opponents are dangerous balloons.
Bloons TD 4 offers simple mechanics that casual games often provide. However, despite having 15 levels, there is no variety in the gameplay. Additionally, some stages are unnecessarily lengthy and oscillate wildly in difficulty. Moreover, its interface is cluttered, with large icons overlapping one another making it visually confusing.
How do you play this game?
Your goal in the Bloons TD 4 is to pop the balloons before they bypass your post. You can do so using an array of monkeys that will serve as defenses. There are 15 levels, each with waves of colored balloons that will fly across the screen with startling speed. Each balloon that will reach your off-screen base will whittle down your life from a starting total of 150.
Your monkeys have special abilities that can pop a specific type of balloon. The color of the balloon flying across the screen dictates which type of defense is needed. You can pop simple red balloons with a dart-throwing monkey. Meanwhile, speedy purple balloons require bombs or spikes to puncture the yellow, green, and blue balloons hidden inside. More than color assignments, there will also be waves of balloons at each level.
Unfortunately, the impressive action is deflated by the game's one-dimensional unpolished set design. As mentioned, the large icons for defenses overlapping the adjacent units. This creates problems with controls as they also obscure your buttons. Moreover, the problematic level designs sometimes make the game dragging. Finally, although it offers integration with Game Center, you can only track your high scores by launching the Game Center app.
Should you play it?
As with the previous Bloons titles, Bloons TD 4 offers a simple game that you can play to kill time. However, it offers nothing new, sticking to the aging formula that the franchise has. It also has a cluttered interface and lacks gameplay variation, making the experience less fun. Overall, it lacks the cleverness and attention to detail that other tower-defense games offer.
